Regarding the bug, Adam Dean tweeted, "It's important to point out today that the #Cardano #Testnet is **catastrophically** broken due to a bug in Cardano Node v 1.35.2."
As the Cardano community gears up for its highly anticipated Vasil hard fork, a developer claims the testnet, which was earlier dubbed "Tested and Ready" for the upgrade, is impacted by a major bug.
The Vasil hard fork was supposed to be released in June 2022 but has since been delayed several times, with the last one being July 29. In a recent update, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson reassured the community that the hard fork "is looking good" and urged stake pool operators to update their nodes to v1.35.3. He further claims that version 1.35.3 could be the final version for the Vasil upgrade. However, the Vasil hard fork still does not have a release date as of yet.
Amid these developments, developer Adam Dean reveals that ATADA / ATAD2 Cardano StakePool Austria and Cardano PoolTool discovered a vulnerability in an earlier version, v1.35.2. He states that the bug was only found because stake pool operators rushed to upgrade their nodes, which decreased chain density and created more incompatible forks on the network. As a result, version 1.35.3 was rendered incapable of syncing on the chain due to compatibility issues.
Adam further reveals that the team is now testing version 1.35.3 on two different testnets that do not have "a simulation of multi-node-version blocks on the chain." Lastly, he urges Charles Hoskinson to deploy the tools required for the Cardano Disaster Recovery Plan in light of the bug discovery.
