The official announcement stated, “All chains deployed using Polygon CDK are interoperable, with automatic access to the unified liquidity of all Polygon chains, and one-click access to the entire liquidity of Ethereum.”
Polygon Labs has deployed an open-source Chain Development Kit to simplify the process of building ZK-powered layer-2 blockchains on the Ethereum (ETH) network.
In its blog post, Polygon (MATIC) noted blockchain developers can use the CDK codebase to convert existing layer-1 networks to layer-2 blockchains. In addition to improving liquidity and scalability, switching to an L2 blockchain will provide nearly instantaneous finality for transactions.
Polygon recommends developers use a Linux operating system with Docker pre-installed to design blockchains using CDK. While the CDK codebase works with most AMD64-based quad-core processors, the software does not support ARM-based Macs at the time of writing.
The Polygon CDK currently uses a Data Availability Committee node alongside a Geth client as the L1, with plans to integrate support for more layer-1 testnets, including Sepolia, in the future.
It is worth noting that Polygon is not the only firm that has released tools to simplify the creation of L2 networks. Matter Labs already released one such SDK in June, while Starknet (STRK) seeks to deploy its own set of tools under the Starknet Stack package in the near future.
