“With Bitcoin, number one – the technology has been proved to work and it’s getting better. Number two – government cannot come near it, government cannot tell me what I can and cannot do with Bitcoin.”
Former MEP Nigel Farage advocated his support for Bitcoin at the Bitcoin Amsterdam conference.
According to him, Bitcoin is free from government control. This led him to dub Bitcoin “the ultimate freedom, the ultimate liberty.”
He added that if the Bitcoin community works together with the lawmakers, it is possible to achieve “a sensible level of regulation.”
Farage noted that he first came across Bitcoin over 10 years ago, before he got involved with politics. He started favoring Bitcoin after realizing that Bitcoin’s limited supply made it a valid inflation-proof token.
“So, the appeal of Bitcoin was rather like the gold standard appeal. There is a set number. It can't be inflated away.”
He also contrasted Bitcoin with traditional banking and called the latter inefficient and slow.
Moreover, Farage asserted the importance of educating the masses on the benefits of Bitcoin. He remarked that many people, including regulators, are still hazy on its specifics, adding
“[Crypto is] painted out to be the Wild West, the haven of criminals – all these negatives.”
