Decentralized and public wireless communication network, Helium Network, has declared the date for official migration to Solana. This is the network’s most significant move to improve scalability and reliability.

Announcing this in a Twitter post, Helium stated that March 27 is the official date for the migration. It advised users to move to the Helium Wallet app for a smooth transition and to keep Hotspots active and online to receive IOTA tokens.

The upgrade involves all wallets, Hotspots, and Helium Network states. Helium said it would happen over a 24-hour transition starting at approximately 1500 UTC/ 10:00  AM ET.

After the migration, the Helium Wallet app becomes a Solana wallet and will enable all users to access their Helium tokens and Hotspots on the Solana blockchain. Users’ existing private keys and secret words will be used to access the Solana wallet.

Also, the HNT token becomes natively compatible with other platforms in Solana’s ecosystem, adding utility for HNT, MOBILE, and IOT token holders.

According to a statement by Helium on why it chose Solana,

“With the ability to power thousands of transactions per second, combined with its massive ecosystem of developers, applications, and integrations, Solana has the speed and scale necessary to take on the blockchain responsibility, while the Helium core developers and community can focus on building wireless protocols and enabling utility on these networks.”

The Solana network will enable Helium to access Solana’s Governance Primitives, a smart contract ecosystem with a strong interest in decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). It will also improve Helium’s scalability, transaction speed, and network reliability with Oracles for Proof-of-Coverage and Data Transfer.

Finally, Helium advises its users to read the official migration documentation in case of any confusion, as that remains the only real source of truth.
