In the words of Solana developer Anza, “MainnetBeta validators: the v1.17.31 release is now recommended for general use. This patch contains enhancements which will help alleviate some of the ongoing network congestion, and will be followed by further enhancements in v1.18.”

After weeks of network congestion issues on the Solana (SOL) blockchain, the developers have finally introduced a series of fixes with update 1.17.31.

Thanks to a surge in the number of memecoins minted on the network, Solana experienced increased user activity and transaction volume over the past few months. Unfortunately, the renewed interest also caused the Solana blockchain to run into delays when processing transactions.

In early February, the problem had worsened to the point where the Solana network suffered from an outage that lasted hours before the developers came up with a fix. Additionally, the Solana blockchain has experienced a sudden rise in the number of failed transactions since the beginning of April.

With the launch of version 1.17.31, the developers have started deploying the congestion fixes on the Solana mainnet. According to developer Rex St. John,  version 1.17.31 is the first of many updates to alleviate the network congestion problems.

Fortunately, the update has led to an uptick in Solana’s pricing after a particularly tumultuous weekend. As of writing, Solana is priced at $154, up by 9% in the past 24 hours.
