Blankos Block Party has become the first Web3 game to launch on the Epic Games Store. The Mythical Games’ title was formerly available on its website after its open beta launch in December 2020. But as of June this year, it had already garnered over one million users.

Following its success, Mythical Games announced its intention to introduce the free-to-play title to the Epic Games Store this year. Although it was initially unclear when this would happen, their plans have finally come to fruition.

In a tweet by the virtual block party, it says,

“Blankos are soaring to new heights! We've just officially launched Blankos Block Party on the @EpicGames Store!”

The vinyl toy culture inspired the Blankos Block Party, which aims to enable users to collaborate and play in a colorful online world. NFTs used in the game represent unique items such as accessories and avatar designs which can be bought or sold in the games’ marketplace.

The game has brought many artists and brand partners for limited edition drops, such as Burberry and Atari.

On the other hand, Epic Games Store has acquired about 194 million users by the end of 2021, and as such, it has taken another approach to Web3 gaming.

In a tweet by Tim Sweeney, Epic Games founder, and CEO, he explained although the studio does not plan on using NFTs or Web3 tech, it will allow creators to use them, provided they keep to the rules and marketplace guidelines.

According to him,

“Epic Games Store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by an appropriate group. Though Epic's not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance.”

It is worth noting that the version of Blankos Block Party launched today on the Epic Games Store is similar to that on the games’ website. The full game launch will take place by September 28, and more content will be added afterward.
